News 12 and Mathew Gitli Urge Landlords to Check Brooklyn Boilers

Much of the Northeast, including New York, recently experienced their first frosts and snowfall of the season. With temperatures expected to continue to plunge in the coming months, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development is turning up the heat on the city’s building owners. Aladdin Plumbing’s Mathew Gitli discusses specific temperature requirements for heating systems in Brooklyn and why it is important to check Brooklyn boilers. As reported by News 12 Brooklyn, landlords and other property owners must keep heating systems on the inside of their buildings running during the months of October through May.

According to the video, when the temperatures outside are below 55 degrees, landlords must heat the inside of the building to at least 68 degrees between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. When temperatures reach 40 degrees or lower outside between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., then the heating system must keep the inside of the building heated to at least 55 degrees. Combined with the expected cooler temperatures, these requirements ensure that the city’s boilers and other heating systems will see heavier use than in some previous seasons.

With regular use, boilers and other heating systems are susceptible to mechanical wear and tear as well as breakdown. Keeping your boiler or other heating systems in working order is especially difficult given the demands placed on it during the fall and winter months. This is especially true of older boiler systems that are often found in the city’s larger, historic structures. This is one of the reasons why regular inspection and maintenance of your boiler, or other HVAC system, is so critical to performance.

Mathew Gitli and News 12 Brooklyn advises homeowners and landlords to check Brooklyn boilers now, before their need for the heating system increases. It is always a good idea to keep an eye on the gauges on your water boiler and make sure that everything is in order. However, larger, more costly issues could arise if you attempt to make any repairs on your own. Call professionals like Aladdin Plumbing to be certain.

In addition to being confident that your boiler will be up to the demands of keeping the inside of your building at the correct temperature, undetected issues with your boiler’s pipes may cause them to freeze and burst, which will lead to additional damage, inconvenience and expense.

With so much at stake, save yourself the hassle and worry of wondering if your boiler is up to the task and is safe to operate this season.
