Reasons to Have a Park Slope Plumbing Contractor Install a Tankless Water Heater

Oct 2, 2015 | Plumbing Advice

If your water heater is getting older, you do not want to wait until it completely gives out before replacing it or you’ll wake up some morning to a cold shower (probably a Monday). Traditional water heaters are still an option, but there are many reasons why you should consider calling a Park Slope plumbing contractor to install an on-demand water heater.

Park Slope Plumbing Contractor For Tankless Water Heaters

On-demand water heaters (sometimes referred to as tankless water heaters) have a lot going for them. The biggest criticism they face is the price, with them being sometimes twice as much as a traditional heater, but once you hear the advantages, it may be worth it, both financially and for convenience. Here’s what you can expect out of an on-demand system.

  • More hot water. You will not run out when multiple people need showers, or you have to run the dishwasher and washing machine at the same time. There’s no need to plan these activities factoring in the amount of time it takes for the hot water tank to reheat, just do what you need to do.
  • Better water quality. Traditional tanks often accumulate rust and scale, which can leach into the water. There’s no issue with this problem with a tankless heater.
  • Save money. An appliance that continually heats up 50 gallons of water just in case you need it is wasteful. By heating water on an as-needed basis, you can save hundreds of dollars each year.
  • Save space. When you move out the old tank, you can use the space for something else. For many people, that means some much-needed closet or storage space.
  • It lasts longer. Traditional water heaters have a life span of 8 to 10 years, but on-demand systems come with warranties for 10 to 15 years (depending on model) and often last 20 years.
  • As an extra benefit, you can feel good that choosing a tankless water heater is a green choice, too. Most are made out of recycled materials, and of course, use a lot less energy to operate.
