Keep Your Park Slope Plumbing Safe

Outside Water Valves

To protect your pipes from the cold, Aladdin Plumbing suggests that you turn off the valve to your garden hose. This prevents water from entering the house and freezing your pipes indoors.

Know Where Your Main Water Valve Is

Just in case you have a problem with your pipes, you will want to know where the main valve is so that you can turn it off in a hurry. Usually located near the water meter, the main water valve is not hard to find. Make sure you keep it in good condition and that it does not have holes or leaks in it. If it does, call Aladdin Plumbing so we can fix them for you.

Drip Water In Your Pipes So That They Do Not Freeze

When the temperatures get below freezing and they will, please leave a faucet to drip in a few locations in your home to ensure that the pipes stay open and do not freeze up. When water freezes, it expands. This could cause your pipe to burst. Remember – you do not want that to happen. It is a major plumbing fix and one that Aladdin can do for you if necessary.

Unfreezing A Pipe

If you have a frozen pipe, you will need to unfreeze it. Slowly thaw the pipe out with hot water using a hot, wet towel or a blow dryer. You will not want to use something that will cause the pipes to thaw too fast and break under the pressure.
