Furnace Issues? 5 Things to Check Before Calling Plumbers in Brooklyn

Nov 22, 2015 | Plumbing Advice

Imagine that you come home from a long day at work, turn up the heat, and nothing happens. Or, in the middle of the night you wake up and realize that the house is freezing. These types of situations can cause any homeowner stress.  They know the solution could be very expensive. However, before you stress too badly, you should know that sometimes there is a simple, cost-effective answer. As plumbers in Brooklyn, we’ve seen it all, and we do not want to see any family end up with a bill for something unnecessary.  So here are some simple things you can check before you call plumbers in Brooklyn for service.

5 Things to Check Before Calling Plumbers in Brooklyn

1) Make sure the thermostat switch is set to “heat.” With many systems, you do not just set the temperature, but you have to make sure the primary switch is on “heat.” Sometimes it can be accidentally bumped off.

2) Check your circuit breakers. Maybe something tripped it. (Gas-powered furnaces use some electricity too). Even if you find it on, turn it off and back on just to be sure.

3) Check the electrical power source on the furnace. Make sure it is secure and there is no damage to it.  That nothing has fallen onto it.

4) Replace the filters. Some newer furnaces can sense that filters are dirty and shut down rather than run inefficiently or cause damage to the system.

5) If your furnace has a pilot light, check to make sure it is lit. If you are comfortable doing so, try to relight it with instructions from your manual.
