Problems That Your Plumber Brooklyn NY Should Always Handle

May 8, 2015 | Plumbing Advice

Homeowners can often handle simple plumbing issues like leaky faucets on their own, but other, more complicated issues are best handled by a plumber Brooklyn NY who can do the job quickly and efficiently. Having a plumbing contractor you can trust for all kinds of jobs in your kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room is essential, especially if you have an older brownstone that has experienced years of normal wear and tear. Here are some typical repairs that should always be handled by a professional.

Hot Water Heaters Issues

Hot water heaters are more complex than most people realize. While you may think that you can handle maintenance on your own, one wrong move could result in a flooded basement or utility area. Even if the problem seems minor, call a professional. A water heater that had a damaged temperature and pressure relief valve could explode. The Discovery TV show Mythbusters even demonstrated this when they purposely removed the T&P valve from a water heater to demonstrate the effect.

In small scale testing, the Mythbusters started with a small six gallon water heater and disabled all of its safety features under the theory of poor installation or neglect. While the water heater eventually ruptured, it did not explode like a rocket. The Mythbusters then upgraded to larger thirty gallon water heater which exploded with significantly greater force, sending the water heater several hundred feet into the air. In order to confirm the stated myth, the Mythbusters obtained a full size fifty two gallon water heater and built a shack around it with a roof that followed standard California building codes. The water heater eventually exploded, shooting through the roof five hundred feet into the air and disintegrating the shack. In light of these results, and the fact that there is documented evidence corroborating the myth, the Mythbusters deemed it confirmed.

Gas Line Issues

Never attempt to do anything with a gas line or an appliance connected to a gas line as one wrong move can not only cost you your home, but also your life. Make sure you have a qualified and certified technician assess the situation. Trying to save a few dollars on gas plumbing problems often costs more money in the long run.  As recently happened when two people were killed after an improperly tapped gas line exploded and destroyed 121 Second Avenue and two neighboring buildings.

He said firefighters and Con Edison employees arrived and the utility workers determined that gas intended for the restaurant was being siphoned off — he called it illegal gas-tapping — for use in the newly renovated apartments upstairs in the five-story building.

Drain and Sewer Backups

Drain and sewer backups require the immediate attention of a knowledgeable plumber. Only a professional can determine if a problem exists with the main sewer, which can cause your drains to back up. Once a sewer drain clog is verified, a professional should clear it as soon as possible with a drain snake or other drain cleaning equipment.

Water Does not Flow Correctly

Poor water pressure throughout your home can be a problem. If it only occurs in a single faucet or shower, it could be as simple as cleaning mineral buildup from the fixture. Widespread issues could point to a problem with the supply line. A plumber will know how to diagnose and fix the problem to restore normal water pressure.

Cracked Pipe Issues

Although this problem occurs more frequently in winter, the freeze-thaw cycle stresses pipes and can result in leaky pipes in warmer weather. Let your plumber Brooklyn, NY correctly diagnose and solve the problem.
